Running your first SEO scan

Your first scan runs automatically when you install. Here's what it does and how to read the results.

What gets scanned

Surface What we check
Products Title, body length, meta title/desc, alt text, schema
Pages Same — including theme-rendered H1s, internal links
Collections Title, description, image alt, structured data
Articles Same as pages + author + dates
Storefront Speed, JSON-LD, canonical tags, llms.txt, agent.json

Three scores you'll see

  • SEO — 14-point checklist per resource (focus keyword, meta length, headings, content length, images, schema). 0-100.
  • Speed — Lighthouse Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP, TBT, FCP) for mobile + desktop.
  • AEO (AI Engine Optimization) — your visibility in AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI). Based on llms.txt presence, schema density, agent.json validity, and live test queries.

All three appear on the Dashboard. Reports → Health Overview shows the same triple plus a 4th gauge: Agent-Ready.

How long does the scan take?

Store size First scan Re-scan
< 100 products 1-3 min < 1 min
100-1,000 3-8 min 1-2 min
1,000-10,000 8-30 min 2-5 min

The scan runs in the background. You can navigate the app while it works. When complete, the Recent Activity panel shows a green checkmark and the score gauges populate.

What if my score is low?

That's normal for a first scan. RankEngine's whole job is to find what to fix.

  • Click any sub-score gauge → drills into the affected category.
  • Open Reports → Health → expand each category → see specific fixable issues.
  • One-click fixes are auto-applicable. Manual fixes get a "what to do" instruction with a deep-link to your Shopify admin.

Re-running scans

  • Manual: Dashboard → "Run Full Scan" (or /reports → Run Full Audit).
  • Automatic: Plan-tier-dependent. Free = weekly. Starter = daily. Growth = daily. Pro = every 6 hours.
  • After fixes: Click "Quick Rescan" on any individual resource — only that page rescans, results in seconds.
