Change history and undo

Every change RankEngine writes to your store — from One-Click Fix, Autopilot, bulk edits or your own edits in the app — is recorded with the value before and after. Title, description and page-content changes keep a restore point, so you can put the old value back.

Who this is for

Merchants who want to check what RankEngine changed, or reverse a change they do not like.

What you need

  • RankEngine installed. There is nothing to switch on: the history records every change from the first fix.
  • For Autopilot's changes: an undo window above 0 hours (Autopilot › Settings › Undo window (hours)). Autopilot's changes become permanent when their window ends.

Steps

  1. Open Settings from the app menu and choose Change history under Tools.

  2. Read the list, newest first. Each row shows What changed, its Source (for example Autopilot, One-click, Manual or Bulk) and When. Use the chips above the list to show one source; choose All to see every change.

  3. Click View diff on a row to see the before and after for one change. A run that changed several pages shows a count instead; open it to see each one.

  4. To reverse a change, click Undo… on its row. RankEngine asks first and says what it will do.

  5. Confirm with the button in the dialog (Undo 1 change, or "Undo 3 changes" for a run). RankEngine writes the previous values back to Shopify and checks they landed.

  6. The row now shows Reverted. Run a scan if you want the scores to reflect it straight away.

You can also undo Autopilot's runs from Autopilot › Activity, within the undo window.

Values your store no longer shows

Below the history, Changed since our fix lists values RankEngine wrote that are no longer what your store shows — usually because someone edited the page in Shopify, or another app changed it.

  1. Compare Now on your store with RankEngine’s earlier version.
  2. Click Reapply to write RankEngine's version again, or Keep current to leave your store as it is.

What you should see

  • After an undo, the old value in Shopify and the row marked Reverted.
  • Rows that cannot be reversed say why: Already undone, Undo window elapsed, or "Can't be undone" for change types without a restore point.
  • Rows flagged Needs review when RankEngine wrote something it recommends undoing (for example SEO fields on a system page). The review button at the top (for example "Review 2") shows only those.

What can and cannot be undone

  • Can be undone: meta titles, meta descriptions and page content on products, collections, pages and blog posts.
  • Cannot be undone here: homepage meta, alt text, image compression, broken-link redirects, structured data, llms.txt, robots.txt, translations and variant SEO.

Troubleshooting

  • "This change could not be undone." Shopify refused the write, or the page was deleted. The reason is on the row; edit the page in Shopify if you still want the old value.
  • Undo window elapsed. The change is permanent now. Edit the value in Shopify or in On-Page SEO.
  • "History could not load." Click Retry.
  • "No SEO changes recorded yet." RankEngine has not changed your store yet. Apply a fix and it appears here.
  • A run says it has more changes than were undone. Large runs are undone in batches — undo the run again for the rest.
