Geo-Grid Rank Heatmap

Lives on SEO Tools → Local SEO tab. For a keyword + business-name match + center coordinate, runs a 3×3 / 5×5 / 7×7 grid of Google Maps SERP queries and renders a colored heatmap of your local-pack rank at each grid point.

How to read it

Each cell shows your rank at that lat/lng. Color buckets:

  • 🟢 1-3 (winning)
  • 🟡 4-10 (visible)
  • 🟠 11-20 (page 2)
  • 🔴 20+ (lost / not in top pack)
  • ⬜️ not in top 20

Hover any cell to see exact lat/lng + the top-3 listings at that point.

Inputs

  • Keyword — what the local searcher would type (coffee shop)
  • Business name (substring) — case-insensitive partial match against the SERP business name (acme cafe)
  • Center latitude / longitude — decimal degrees; pick a central point in your service area
  • Grid size — 3 (9 calls), 5 (25), or 7 (49 calls). Bigger = more granular but more API cost
  • Radius (km) — 0.5 to 25; sets the cell spacing

Usage

Each grid point consumes one local-rank lookup. Per-coordinate cache for 6h means repeat runs on the same area within 6h reuse cached data.

What other tools charge

Dedicated local-rank tools often sell this as their headline value prop. RankEngine includes it alongside Shopify SEO, AEO, content, and fix workflows.

Tips

  • Center on your storefront or service area, not city center
  • 3×3 with 5km radius is a great first test before spending on 7×7
  • If most cells are red, your GBP profile likely needs work (categories, services, hours, NAP consistency) before targeting more granular ranking
  • 7×7 = 49 calls + 6h cache, so don't run more than 1-2 per area per day to keep costs predictable
